Ring Gear

In conjunction with pinions, ring gears are used to redirect power by 90° in the powertrain, for example in rear-wheel or all-wheel drives. It is customary to machine the hypoid teeth from a simple forged blank. In contrast, Hirschvogel has developed a forging process that allows teeth to be forged into the part. This process has also been successfully introduced into serial production. Compared to competing components without teeth, the Hirschvogel part saves raw material, thereby having a positive effect on the CO2 footprint. Above all, machining times and tool wear – and thus costs – are reduced in the subsequent machining process.
